Arsenal have been chasing a deal for Aston Villa teenager Carney Chukwuemeka – but he may instead be moving to Germany this summer.

Chukwuemeka has long been considered to be one of the top young talents in England during his rise at Aston Villa.

Still only 18, Chukwuemeka has now played in nine Premier League games this season, starting just one.

Steven Gerrard has been willing to bring Chukwuemeka on gradually in the Premier League since becoming Villa boss.

Chukwuemeka has caught the eye in those appearances and was hailed as ‘outstanding’ by pundit Paul Merson.

The problem for Villa is that Chukwuemeka is out of contract next summer and may choose to walk away from Villa Park.

The London Evening Standard reported in March that Arsenal have been watching Chukwuemeka ahead of a potential deal this summer.

Arsenal may well feel that Chukwuemeka can join Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka in an exciting crop of English talent at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are far from alone in the race to sign him though.

The Daily Mail claim that Borussia Dortmund are particularly keen on signing playmaker Chukwuemeka this summer.

Dortmund allegedly believe that Chukwuemeka can be the next Jude Bellingham or Jadon Sancho, thriving in Germany after leaving England at a young age.

That kind of prospect may be appealing to Chukwuemeka having seen the rapid progress of Bellingham and Sancho in recent years.

Fabrizio Romano has now taken to Twitter to report that a number of European clubs are ‘on alert’ to potentially sign Chukwuemeka.

Romano claims that Germany is now the most likely destination for Chukwuemeka this summer, with Bundesliga teams exploring a deal.

Unless Villa can turn things around, it looks like Chukwuemeka will be on the move – and Arsenal will be missing out as things stand.
