Arsenal insist they remain confident in their squad’s strength and balance heading into the crucial run-in, even after suffering a significant injury blow and seeing a potential Bayern Munich target move out of reach.

The Gunners are currently leading the Premier League and competing across multiple fronts, but fitness concerns have tested their depth.

Despite this, club sources stress their belief that keeping the squad together will carry them through the season.

Arsenal ‘happy’ with squad depth despite Merino injury

A recent update shared on social media highlighted Arsenal’s position after a late transfer development involving Bayern Munich.

“As revealed on talkSPORT led to believe [Arsenal] did ask the question of Bayern re Goretzka in the wake of Merino’s injury, but not expecting anything to happen there.

“Premier League leaders are happy with the strength of their squad heading into the run-in,” Alex Crook wrote on X.

The comments suggest the club’s leadership remain content with what they currently have, even though a move for a Bayern midfielder did not materialise.

That confidence appears rooted in a collective belief in the depth and versatility already at Mikel Arteta’s disposal.

What Arsenal’s loss of Mikel Merino means for their title bid

Arsenal confirmed that Mikel Merino will be sidelined for an extended period due to a significant foot injury that requires surgery, with the hope that he will return before the end of the season.

The injury occurred in a recent Premier League match and ruled him out of their subsequent win against Leeds United.

Merino, 29, had been a key midfield presence, contributing goals and tactical flexibility throughout the season before the setback.

Players such as Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, and Kai Havertz provide experience and leadership in central areas, offering Arteta a range of options even without Merino.

That existing depth, plus the return of key performers from other minor injuries, underpins the club’s assertion that they are not desperate on the market.
