Arsenal have reportedly ‘announced their intentions’ to sign a forward who played a key role during last season’s UEFA Europa League.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been rather quiet in the summer transfer window with the Gunners making the solitary addition of Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori with the Italian set to play a key role for the Gunners.

Arsenal could, however, be in for a busy end to the window with just days remaining before the window slams shut. Sources have told HITC that Arsenal are progressing in talks for Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

As well as the addition of a midfielder, Arsenal are also keen on goalkeeper Joan Garcia with the Gunners agreeing a deal with the Spaniard but Aaron Ramsdale is preventing the Gunners from completing that deal.

A new forward could well be the next incoming, according to reports.

Arsenal ‘announce’ intention to sign Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman shone for Atalanta during the UEFA Europa League final with the Italian club beating Bayer Leverkusen comfortably and the Nigerian winger excelled.

Now, according to a report from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the English winger is attracting the attention of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Lookman reportedly missed Atalanta’s training session and the situation is now ‘heated’. He could return to the Premier League, as there is interest from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who have ‘announced’ their desire to make an approach for the Nigerian.

Arsenal want to offer a hefty €50 million (£42 million) plus bonuses and could also put forward Jakub Kiwior as part of the bid. However, according to Pedulla, Atalanta are demanding €65-70 million (£55-59 million.

There is also interest from Liverpool but the Gunners are reportedly ahead in the race. A report from TuttoAtalanta states that discussions have been had about the Nigerian staying but the situation looks to be an interesting one.

Jude Bellingham praised Ademola Lookman

The Nigerian winger’s fantastic performance in the Europa League final has seemingly caught the attention of Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.

“We had to prepare for them, and they have got some amazing talents,” Bellingham told reporters after the victory over Atalanta in the Super Cup. “Ademola Lookman, who I’m a big fan of, is one of them, and we had to prepare for him because he’s really good at one-on-ones.”

If Arsenal did make a move for the Nigerian, this would not be his first spell in the Premier League with the winger spending time at Everton. During his time at Goodison Park, the Nigerian winger scored just four goals for the Toffees.
