Arsenal are chasing Lisandro Martinez and Ajax now expect a new bid to be made very soon after rejecting a couple of offers.

Ajax are facing a difficult summer with a number of key men moving on.

Boss Erik ten Hag has moved on to Manchester United and a host of players have decided to leave too.

Andre Onana has gone to Inter Milan whilst Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch have both joined Bayern Munich.

Add in Sebastien Haller’s move to Borussia Dortmund and Ajax are facing major changes – so don’t really want to sell their Player of the Year.

Arsenal are chasing Lisandro Martinez

Defender Martinez won Ajax’s Player of the Year award this past season, playing a key role in their Eredivisie title win.

The Argentina international is now attracting major interest and a Premier League move is understood to be likely.

Arsenal made an opening bid of £26million last month, but that was rejected.

A new bid of £34million went in last week but that still isn’t enough to convince Ajax to sell.

Martinez wants to leave Ajax and has told them of his desire to leave, but the Amsterdam club are sticking to their firm asking price of £45million.

Add in that Manchester United are keen too and this is a real battle for Arsenal, who think Martinez is perfect to offer competition at left back and left-sided centre back.

The Daily Mail now claim that Ajax now think both Arsenal and United are set to make new bids for Martinez in the near future.

It’s noted that Martinez has a strong relationship with Erik ten Hag and that could work in Manchester United’s favour.

Arsenal will still hope to win the race and a final decision will surely be taken soon given how close the two clubs have come to meeting Ajax’s asking price.
