Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard has once again come under criticism for his performance at the 2024 European Championships in Germany but there was praise for one Everton star.

Towards the end of last season, Belgian winger Leandro Trossard emerged as one of Arsenal’s most important players as he scored crucial goals for the Gunners in the run in.

In the end, it counted for very little as Manchester City, once again, pipped Arsenal to the Premier League title after beating West Ham United on the final day of the season.

Despite this, Trossard, who joined the club back in January of 2023, has proven to be a very astute deal but the former Brighton & Hove Albion ace has come under scrutiny for his performances for his national team.

Trossard criticised for Belgium performance

Last week, Trossard’s father spoke in an interview about the criticism that his son received for his national team and the put the blame squarely at the feet of new Belgian boss Domenico Tedesco.

Trossard was given a starting berth for the Red Devils but he struggled to make a name for himself and looked to be a player bereft of confidence against Ukraine.

Voetbal Primeur gave their player ratings for the game, whilst there was praise for Everton’s Amadou Onana and City’s Kevin De Bruyne, the same couldn’t be said for Trossard.

The outlet awarded the Arsenal forward with a 4/10 rating and said: “Due to the suspension of Dodi Lukebakio, Trossard had another chance to prove himself.

“(he) Clearly wanted to do that too, although there were occasional communication problems with Theate and Castagne, among others. Lukebakio seems to be preferred again in the next game.”

As for Onana, who was awarded a 7/10 against Ukraine, Voetbal wrote: “Got on the ball a lot more than the first games, although there was clearly a slight lack of creativity from Onana.

“Defensively, he was important on several occasions and was perhaps the standout player for our Devils, together with Casteels and De Bruyne.”

Trossard key for Arsenal next season

Trossard is certainly not the only player from the Gunners who is struggling during this competition with Declan Rice coming under fire for his performances.

Belgium over the years seem to have controversy after controversy, the Red Devils were eliminated at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the group stage.

Arsenal fans should not be concerned by Trossard’s performances, Belgium certainly don’t look like a winning force under Tedesco at this summer’s tournament.
