As Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan in the 1st leg of the Champions League Round of 16, Antonio Conte waxed lyrical about Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp.
Some, on the other hand like were especially critical of the pair like Jamie O’Hara, who said that their displays made him want to turn off the game.
As Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a long-term injury and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg was suspended against AC Milan, Tottenham had no option but to field Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp, whose performances impressed the main man, Antonio Conte.
Conte praises Tottenham duo Sarr & Skipp after AC Milan defeat
The pair seemed to win a majority of their battles in midfield, while keeping things ticking, which did not leave much room for criticism regarding their showings.
After Tottenham lost to AC Milan at the San Siro, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte was over the moon about the way Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp played, telling Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, “About the two midfielders, I think I’m really happy about the performance from Skippy and Pape Sarr.”

He continued, “Honestly, to play in this way in the Champions League and to play in the San Siro in this atmosphere, I think that normally, it’s tough for important players. They played a really good game and I’m really happy.”
“They played a really good game and I’m really happy. This type of performance makes me more relaxed about the future because we have to consider that we could finish the season with only 3 midfielders: Pape Sarr, Skippy and Pierre [Emile] Hojbjerg”, Conte said when explaining the impact of the positive outings from Sarr and Skipp for Tottenham against AC Milan.
The former Chelsea manager concluded, “To have this type of performance makes me more relaxed because I know I can count on these two players, 100% and I’m really happy for them.”
Considering Antonio Conte has referred to Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp as a ‘really good prospect’ and ‘quality’ respectively, the duo now have to reward the Tottenham boss’ trust by continuing to put in performances like they did against AC Milan.
