Anthony Gordon says he would love for Newcastle United to sign player with ‘special ability’

Anthony Gordon is proving to be one of Newcastle United’s best buys under their Saudi-led ownership.

It was a slow start when Gordon initially swapped Everton for St James’ Park during the January transfer window of 2022.

But Eddie Howe and the player himself deserve huge credit for the performance he put up last season, even though fans would have been devastated that it didn’t result in any European finish.

Manchester United’s FA Cup final win over Manchester City meant that Newcastle missed out on a Europa Conference League spot.

You probably would have expected the powers that be to be more active in the summer transfer window, but so far, it has been rather quiet to the frustration of the fans.

Money is no object for Newcastle because they have the richest owners in the league.

But as Aston Villa’s co-owner Nassef Sawiris once said, the rules that are in place by the football governing bodies are ‘anti-completive’.

Yes, the Magpies have still spent in recent times, but they haven’t been able to flex their muscles as they would have liked, with Gordon being asked an interesting transfer question.

The England winger was asked who he would add to this current Newcastle squad and he was pretty clear in stating that it would be, Kevin de Bruyne.

The Manchester City star is one of the seven best Premier League midfielders of all time and a player who has won it all on the domestic stage.

Gordon shared how De Bruyne in the colours of black and white would play through balls to him for fun, as he told Fubo.

“I would have to go Kevin de Bruyne,” said Gordon. “I think I would get a lot more one-on-one chances just through his special ability to play through passes.”

It has been well-documented about Gordon’s transfer links to Liverpool this summer.

The Toon Army faithful probably can’t wait for the summer transfer window to slam shut, in that regard, because talk simply won’t go away.
