Anthony Gordon helped England take a lead against Argentina in the semi-final, but the Three Lions couldn’t protect the lead.

Despite being up 1-0 heading into the 85th minute, England blew the lead and lost 2-1 to Argentina, thanks to Lionel Messi providing two key assists to Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez.

Earlier in the game, Anthony Gordon had given them the lead, as the FC Barcelona winger showed why the Catalan giants paid so much money to land him.

Speaking to reporters after the game, a disappointed Anthony Gordon responded to questions about the loss to Lionel Messi and Argentina.

Gordon immediately lavished praise on Messi, describing his experience watching the Argentinian perform for his new team, Barcelona.

“I’ve been watching Leo Messi make a difference with Barca for many years, and today I’ve confirmed that he’s even better than I thought.”

Gordon added that he is distraught about losing the game, but can still find joy in the guarantee of a player who loves Barcelona so much being the one to raise the trophy.

“I’m disappointed about the elimination, but I know that at least the World Cup will be won by someone who loves Barcelona passionately.”

Despite a disappointing exit at the hands of Argentina, there is no denying just how well Anthony Gordon played throughout the FIFA World Cup.

With his solid goal to take the lead against the reigning world champions, Gordon added to his tally of goal contributions, bagging his first goal and ending the tournament in three assists.
