Both Tottenham and Crystal Palace currently find themselves on the hunt for a new long-term managerial option.

Antonio Conte – according to the Telegraph – is expected to leave Spurs this week, while Crystal Palace turned to Roy Hodgson as an emergency option until the summer after deciding to sack Patrick Vieira on Friday.

In our view, that decision from the south Londoners represents good news for Tottenham – for reasons that have nothing to do with Conte.

What’s the story?

Well – according to Football LondonTottenham are very keen to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

From our point of view, their chances of signing the England international have now increased hugely.

When arriving at Selhurst Park from Chelsea in an £18m deal shortly after the Eagles hired Vieira, Guehi spoke about the Frenchman’s presence and the “exciting” project in SE25 which helped him decide to join Crystal Palace.

The Abidjan-born defender told Crystal Palace’s official website: “The club is taking a really exciting direction with the new gaffer that’s come in…really enticed me and made me want to come.”

Now, that project has been ripped apart by Steve Parish at the first sign of trouble – a decision which has shocked the Crystal Palace squad, as Joel Ward told The Athletic.

As a result, Guehi may now be feeling slightly disillusioned at Crystal Palace, as the factors that convinced him to join vanish in the blink of an eye.

Even if Parish finds a talented coach to begin a new project, it will surely be hard for Guehi and others to get behind it, knowing that those in the boardroom at Selhurst Park could once again panic at the first hurdle.

Therefore – if they can sort their own managerial situation out quickly – Tottenham now have a great chance to turn the Crystal Palace No.6’s head.

Tottenham need to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace

If there is one area which is in desperate need of strengthening at Tottenham, it is the centre-back department.

The likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Clement Lenglet and Japhet Tanganga are simply not good enough to take Spurs where they want to go – a quality partner must be found for Cristian Romero this summer.

Guehi – who has won three caps for England and captained Crystal Palace by the age of 22 – is one of the most precocious young defenders in England, so if there is now any chance to lure him to N17, Tottenham have to take it.
