Wolves have made an announcement today which suggests Southampton have made quite the error of judgement.
What’s the story?
Well, back in July 2021, Southampton sold Mario Lemina to OGC Nice in a bargain €5.5m (£5m) deal.
It came after the Saints allowed the Gabon international to enter the final 12 months of his contract, with a sale chosen over a renewal despite the fact he impressed Ralph Hasenhuttl in training – according to The Athletic.
After just two years in France, Lemina joined Wolves in a £9.7m deal back in January, where he is beginning to show Southampton that they may have been wrong to let him go.
Earlier on Friday, Wolves announced that the 29-year-old had won their Player of the Month award for February, in what was his first full month since arriving at Molineux.
That is quite the achievement considering Lemina was actually sent off after just 27 minutes in the second game of the month, coincidentally a 2-1 win over Southampton, which saw him miss the following 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
Therefore, the Wolves No.5’s efforts stand out tremendously, given the fact he basically missed 50% of his side’s four Premier League games throughout February.
Southampton made another error as Wolves enjoy Lemina
Lemina is not the only misjudgement Southampton have made in recent times.
As detailed on HITC Football recently, Southampton decided against activating their £3m option to buy Kevin Danso on a permanent basis back in 2020 after taking the Austria international on a season-long loan from Augsburg.

Now, the 24-year-old is shining at RC Lens, with Newcastle considering a £35m move for his signature according to Kicker.
As Southampton find themselves bottom of the Premier League, Lemina and Danso aren’t the only mistakes those at St Mary’s have made, to say the least.
