Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has outlined his plans to get a new defender signed up soon.

Ange Postecoglou has admitted that signing a new defender is ‘absolutely’ a priority for Tottenham Hotspur.

Postecoglou saw some encouraging attacking signs from his Tottenham side on Tuesday as they faced West Ham United.

Spurs looked more exciting going forward than they have for a while, but there were still problems defensively.

Tottenham conceded two goals from set pieces and then saw Gianluca Scamacca wander through on goal to give West Ham a 3-2 win.

It’s pretty clear that Spurs need another defender and Postecoglou absolutely knows it.

Speaking to Football London, Postecoglou admitted that it is Tottenham’s ‘intention’ to sign a new defender very soon.

Postecoglou noted that Tottenham have been working on signing a defender ‘for a while’ and the plan is to get a deal done ‘as quickly as possible’.

“Yeah, I think that’s definitely our intention, absolutely,” said Postecolgou. “We’ve been working on it for a while and we’ll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible,” he added.

Who could Tottenham sign at centre back to boost Ange Postecolgou’s squad?

Tottenham appear to want two defenders this summer.

The main names in the frame are both Bundesliga players with Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba wanted.

90Min reported earlier on Wednesday that Tottenham are still in talks to sign both players after weeks of rumours.

That report claims that Tapsoba is Tottenham’s top target but Spurs are trying to grind down Leverkusen’s €50million (£43.5million) asking price.

It’s added that talks with Wolfsburg over a €40million (£35million) deal for Van de Ven are more advanced.

Van de Ven allegedly wants to join Spurs, which should ease reported fears that Liverpool will hijack Tottenham having shown interest of their own in the Dutchman.

The 22-year-old is a natural left-footer and has incredible speed, so we can understand why Tottenham are keen and there is an argument to be made that he is actually a better fit than Tapsoba for what Spurs need.

Tottenham must to come to a decision soon and Postecoglou seems confident that a deal will be done in good time.
