A number of Leeds United players have played their final game for the club.
It’s not the way fans or anyone wanted it to end. The Wembley turf was set up for Daniel Farke’s side to create history.
Leeds United had never won a play-off final, but after 100 minutes of football, it was that same sinking feeling again because Southampton recorded a deserved 1-0 win.
There can be no excuses here. The best team won. And in truth, the signs have been there all season long.
During the regular season, Russell Martin’s side were the only team to beat Leeds home and away. In those matches, they were tactically better.
You feel the tactics, and the Yorkshire side’s inability to deal with their opponents, played a part again because they just couldn’t get near the Southampton players.
Crysencio Summerville has been one of the best players in the Championship this season. He has cooked many players. That’s why he has 19 goals to his name.
But Kyle Walker-Peters is a man who has his number. Andy Townsend expressed that Summerville didn’t get ‘anywhere near the levels’ he knows he can reach, as he told talkSPORT (27/05/24 at 8:45 pm).
The former defender expressed that he was ‘really disappointed’ with the speedster and his performance in the play-off final.
The fact that Farke decided to sub off Summerville after 70 minutes tells you everything you need to know about his performance because it was non-existent.

“I was really disappointed with Crysencio Summerville,” said Townsend. “A player I really like watching, yet he never got anywhere near the levels required.
“I thought in the last third, Leeds were really, really poor. So ordinary and you just needed a spark. The other fella, at the other end, Adam Armstrong, you knew given half a chance, if he isn’t going to score, then he will work the goalkeeper.
“But I didn’t see any crosses any shots or any real effect in the last third.”

Crysencio Summerville’s final game for Leeds United
When the final whistle blew and those negative thoughts started racing through the fans’ heads, one of the things they know will become a reality is the departure of Summerville.
Yes, he didn’t perform in the biggest game of the season for the Whites, but he has proven that he is now too good for England’s second tier.

Not only that, from a financial perspective, Leeds will now have to make some money and let him go.
Sources previously told HITC that there is transfer interest in the player, with the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal keen on his talents.
