Andrew Giuliani, the Executive Director of the White House Task Force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has named his favorite moment from the tournament thus far.

This has been a brilliant World Cup, despite so many doubts heading into it.

France advance… just! Did they disappoint or did the ref allow Paraguay to get away with too much? 😳

Paraguay didn’t even get a single yellow…

Critics pointed to the expanded format as a reason to not be quite as excited for this particular version of the tournament, as well expressing doubts as to how much the American public would take an interest.

Still, such fears have not come to pass. Even in US cities not hosting the World Cup, there’s still a palpable sense of excitement.

Tournament minnows Cape Verde have been one of the success stories of the competition thus far, while almost every big-name player has stepped up. For Giuliani, the fans in particular have stood out.

Giuliani says fans are the highlight of the 2026 World Cup

Speaking to FOX Sports, Giuliani was asked for his favorite moment of the 2026 World Cup thus far. Standing in front of supporters waving American flags, there was indeed an obvious answer to give.

He said: “This might be it right here, seeing all these Americans right here. On our 250th birthday, celebrating.

“I think it’s shown the world’s love affair with the United States of America. You see also how many international visitors we’ve been able to get in. It’s been really, really amazing to not just celebrate with all these American citizens, but with the entire world.”

It has also been fantastic to see how many supporters from across the globe have explored the United States, too. The brilliant job that co-hosts Canada and Mexico have done cannot be forgotten either.

The American public have certainly taken to soccer this summer, which has no doubt been helped by the fact that the USMNT have so far exceeded expectations.

They next face Belgium in Seattle as they look to qualify for the quarter-finals in the biggest international tournament that soccer has to offer for the first time since 2002.

The MLS was created the last time that the United States hosted the World Cup back in 1994. It will now be fascinating to see what legacy co-hosting this year’s tournament leaves for future generations.
