Prior to the World Cup starting, an awful lot was made about how much the American public would embrace it.
Soccer, after all, is hardly the most talked about of games in the United States. The fact that the USMNT were struggling also did not help.

Argentina needed extra time to win a World Cup classic.. what is your REACTION to the game?
Yet, there is genuine excitement in the States about the tournament, which has no doubt been helped by the positive run upon which the USMNT have embarked thus far.
So much so, in fact, that the New York Yankees kept some of their fans attending their game against the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium.
Fans watch World Cup action during Yankees rain delay
A video that surfaced on social media platform X showed fans inside the stadium watching the Argentina versus Cape Verde World Cup game on the jumbotron.
While supporters were clearly there for baseball action, they were certainly treated to a World Cup classic as the rain poured in New York.
Minnows Cape Verde almost took world champions Argentina to a penalty shootout, twice coming from behind in Miami in what was one of the most remarkable games in the tournament’s history.
Indeed, there were huge cheers from the crowd when Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez scored what looked like to be a winner in extra-time before Cape Verde scored an even better goal through Sidny Cabral.

The world champions, however, managed to find a way to get through to the next round where they will play Egypt. Argentina are aiming to become the first team since Brazil did so in 1958 and 1962 to retain the biggest trophy that soccer has to offer.
The Yankees also managed to end a seven-game winless run on Friday night as Ben Rice hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the third inning to claim a 5-2 victory.
