‘And Kalvin Phillips’: Leeds journalist shares what he saw after full time at ER today

The only thing more worrying for Leeds United fans than relegation from the Premier League is Kalvin Phillips’s future.

Everybody knows that the Leeds midfielder has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United recently.

But now there’s speculation about Liverpool [90 Min] and Tottenham Hotspur [The Telegraph] signing the player, too.

And if the Whites do go down, well it seems almost impossible for Victor Orta to keep the England international in West Yorkshire.

Phillips is a Thorp Arch academy graduate and has spent his entire career with the Elland Road club but, according to Adam Pope of BBC, he might’ve said goodbye today.

Leeds dropped two massive points at Elland Road by drawing 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion, having scored in the last minute to salvage a point.

This is United’s last home game of the campaign and Pope – who exclusively covers the club for BBC West Yorkshire Sport – has suggested that the teary-eyed Phillips was bidding farewell after the game.

Is Kalvin Phillips leaving Leeds?

The answer is, as Pope said, possibly.

Actually, it’s looking entirely probable, regardless of whether Leeds stay in the Premier League or go down.

This is one of the best midfielders in English football and in terms of talent, he shouldn’t be battling relegation and as much as he loves the club, he’ll know that himself.

Whatever happens, much bigger and much richer outfits will be looking at Phillips during the summer transfer window and based on his demeanour here, well he might be looking back at them.
