Tottenham Hotspur are pursuing Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix – but they could face major competition from Chelsea.

Spurs simply have to find central defenders this summer; one, two, possibly three depending on who leaves Tottenham this summer.

New director of football Fabio Paratici has to find solutions this summer, and a new name has popped up on Tottenham’s radar.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Wolfsburg star Lacroix is one of Paratici’s top targets alongside Jules Kounde and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Lacroix only joined Wolfsburg from Sochaux last summer, but turned in a superb season to help the Bundesliga side reach the Champions League.

The 21-year-old is only one year removed from being in France’s second tier, but he is already being linked with a huge move away from Wolfsburg.

Tottenham may have to cough up big money to get a deal done, but with Lacroix 6ft 3in frame and his blistering pace, he looks like a great centre back to build around.

French football expert and ESPN analyst Julien Laurens has now commented on Lacroix whilst speaking to MAH, claiming that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel loves him, hinting that the Blues could rival Tottenham for Lacroix.

Laurens added that Lacroix’s talent is ‘obvious’, hailing his ‘incredible’ rise whilst comparing his impact at Wolfsburg to that of Ruben Dias or Virgil van Dijk – a likeness Tottenham fans would surely love.

“Thomas Tuchel is a huge fan,” said Laurens. “Tuchel still manages to watch pretty much every single Bundesliga game since he took over at Chelsea. With Lacroix, he talent is so obvious there.”

“He might decide to stay one more year so he can play in the Champions League and then go, but the rise has been so incredible. He’s not Ruben Dias and he’s not Virgil van Dijk, but the impact that Lacroix had on Wolfsburg is very similar to the impact Dias and Van Dijk had on City and Liverpool – he changed that team,” he added.
