Tottenham Hotspur need to win their next five away games to make history.

Spurs have begun their 2017/18 campaign in fine fashion, despite an early loss to Chelsea, and a pair of disappointing home draws.

Their away form has been as scintillating as ever, though, with six consecutive wins on the road, a run that stretches back to May 18th when they thrashed Leicester City 6-1.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men still have a long way to go if they are to usurp their all time record of 10 away wins on the trot set way back in 1960, however.

So can they do it?

The honest answer is that it will be very unlikely. A quick look at their next five fixtures makes pretty grim reading for Spurs fans. Trips to the Bernabeu and Old Trafford are accompanied by visits to the Emirates and Signal Iduna Park.

Let’s take a look at those five away games, and see if there is any way that the current Tottenham team can make history:

Huddersfield Town, 30.09.2017:

David Wagner, Manager of Huddersfield Town celebrates promotion to the Premier League after the Sky Bet Championship play off final between Huddersfield and Reading at Wembley Stadium on...

The easiest away fixture on paper for Spurs over the coming months, although bringing all three points back from the John Smith’s Stadium will be far from a gimme. The Lilywhites will likely have too much for David Wagner’s men, however, and they should secure a victory.

Prediction: Huddersfield 1-3 Tottenham

Real Madrid, 17.10.2017:

Real Madrid's Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo gestures after missing a goal during the Spanish league footbal match Real Madrid CF vs Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in...

This is where things get tricky for the north London outfit. Madrid have won the Champions League three times in the last four years, and Spurs will surely be delighted to leave the Spanish capital with a point, but they should not approach the game with trepidation – Madrid have shown their vulnerability this season. They lost at home to Real Betis earlier this month, so anything is possible, although it will take an immense performance from every single one of the Spurs players, if they are to win the game. It might just be a bridge too far for them though.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Tottenham

Manchester United, 28.10.2017:

Manchester United's new Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho attends a photocall on the pitch at Old Trafford stadium in Manchester, northern England, on July 5, 2016.

Another tricky one for Tottenham, as Pochettino takes his side to Old Trafford to face Jose Mourinho’s mean-looking United side. Spurs are more than capable of winning the game though, but must be more clinical than they were last season at the Theatre of Dreams, when they dominated the game, only to lose 1-0.

Prediction: Man United 1-1 Tottenham

Arsenal, 18.11.2017:

Arsene Wenger, Manager of Arsenal looks on during the Carabao Cup Third Round match between Arsenal and Doncaster Rovers at Emirates Stadium on September 20, 2017 in London, England.

November’s trip to the Emirates to take on their bitter rivals Arsenal will be the fixture that stands out for most Tottenham fans, and judging by the way both teams have started their respective campaigns, Spurs should have no problem winning the game. Pochettino’s side seem hungrier, faster and more clinical than their arch rivals, and the gap between the two sides seems to be increasing by the week.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-3 Tottenham

Borussia Dortmund, 21.11.2017:

Dortmund's Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang eyes the ball during the German First division Bundesliga football match between Borussia Dortmund and Hertha Berlin in Dortmund,...

Spurs were brilliant against the Germans at Wembley earlier this month, winning 3-1, but their trip to Signal Iduna Park will surely be an entirely different story. The intimidating atmosphere created by the Dortmund fans will make it hard going for Tottenham, but the strength and experience they have in their team will make them very much competitive.

Prediction: Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Tottenham

With such a tough run of away fixtures, it will be next to impossible for Pochettino’s men to reel off five consecutive wins. Two draws, two wins and a defeat would represent a fine return, however, and they would most likely take that if it was offered to them now.

One thing that is for certain is that Tottenham must now be considered as one of Europe’s strongest sides, and their next five away games will be a real test of their mettle.
