Before the September 1st deadline, Spanish outlet AS claimed that Liverpool offered Real Madrid £86m for Federico Valverde.
The Uruguay international supposedly didn’t even consider a move to Anfield given how satisfied he is with life at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he has become a vital cog under Carlo Ancelotti.
Valverde has scored four goals in 11 appearances so far this season, leading to Luis Suarez comparing him with Steven Gerrard – he has now responded to that statement.
Valverde pleased with comparison to Liverpool legend
After his fellow countryman likened him to Gerrard, Valverde seemed very happy.
Speaking to Infobae, the South American said: “It’s spectacular when you are compared to such a player, to a star, a world idol, not just a Liverpool one. It’s amazing. I see characteristics of him.”
Despite rejecting the Reds, it seems Valverde has plenty of respect for one of their iconic players in Gerrard.

If the 24-year-old did decide to change his mind about a move to Anfield, he has an ideal source of information right beside him in Suarez, who can tell him all about life on Merseyside.
However, we doubt a move to Liverpool will happen anytime soon, as Valverde is contracted to Real Madrid until the summer of 2027 – it would take a monumental offer to tempt Ancelotti into selling.
Liverpool know what they need amid Valverde pursuit
Aside from Valverde, Liverpool are also eyeing a move for Jude Bellingham in 2023, according to The Athletic.
Elsewhere, Sky Germany are claiming that Klopp is interested in Bayern Munich wonderkid Jamal Musiala, who – like Bellingham – is dominating European football at the age of 19.
Clearly, Klopp knows what he needs at Liverpool – energy in midfield.
One thing Valverde, Bellingham and Musiala all have in common is a guarantee of leg work in the middle of the park.
The trio can run all day long, while they can also contribute quality in the final third.
The likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner are starting to look a bit weary in midfield nowadays, so that department definitely needs freshening up at Liverpool.
