Ibrox legend Ally McCoist has said on Sky Sports that Frank Lampard would excite the Rangers fans.

The former Rangers boss has said that Lampard succeeding Steven Gerrard at Ibrox would grab the imagination of the Gers fans.

The talkSPORT pundit has also spoken highly of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who is in the frame for the Rangers manager’s job as well.

The Herald have claimed that former Rangers star van Bronckhorst and ex-Chelsea manager Lampard are the two leading contenders.

What Ally McCoist has said

McCoist told Sky Sports, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “I like Giovanni, he has a good record in Holland with Feyenoord and a good record in China. He knows the club – which doesn’t hinder you, invariably it helps you.

“We can’t underestimate the importance of the board getting this one right because this year’s league campaign is vital. But I just heard – you were ruling Frank Lampard out of the Norwich job, is that correct?

“He is another one who would interest us. He’s very similar to Steven Gerrard actually.

“Would come up and the great thing about it, he would grab the imagination of the Rangers support. He has managed a very good level.”

Could Frank Lampard to Rangers happen?

Lampard reportedly wants the Rangers job.

The former Derby County boss also recently pulled out of talks to become the new Norwich City manager.

Lampard is one of the biggest names in world football.

Just like his England international teammate Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard was a very exciting appointment for Rangers in the summer of 2018.

And the Liverpool legend did not have full-time first-team management at that stage.

Lampard has that already.

The former England international has worked at Derby and Chelsea.

The 43-year-old took Derby to the Championship playoff final and then guided Chelsea to the Premier League top four.
