Micah Richards has claimed that Liverpool transfer target and PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe is the ‘best young player around’ and better than Manchester City’s free-scoring defence destroyer, Erling Haaland.
The former Manchester City right-back was mocked by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher for his comments, with Richards adding that he thinks Mbappe is the better ‘all-round’ player than the Norwegian, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (25/10/22 at 10:15 pm).
The hottest property in the footballing world right now is Haaland, with the 21-year-old scoring a stunning 22 goals from 16 matches in all competitions this season, although, he was hooked at half-time during Man City’s goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Whilst Haaland was drawing a rare blank against his former club, Mbappe scored two and assisted the same amount as PSG thrashed Maccabi Haifa 7-2 to reach the last-16 of the Champions League and boot Juventus out of the competition.
Both Mbappe and Haaland are heading towards an era where they will be expected to battle it out, like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have done for well over a decade.
It would be pretty remarkable if they were able to hit the numbers, over a consistent number of years, as those two are doing because, even to this day, they are still going.
Nonetheless, when talking about Mbappe’s latest performance, Richards put it out there that he thinks the 2018 World Cup winner is better than the Manchester City star ripping through English football, as Jamie Carragher responded to his fellow pundit’s comments.
“It doesn’t matter, Mbappe is the best young player around,” said Richards.
Carragher responded: “Better than Haaland?” The former Manchester City star added: “Remember, we said this, The best all-round game.”
The former Liverpool defender then turns to the crowd behind him: “Did you hear this Man City fans? Micah Richards thinks Mbappe is better than Haaland.”
Richards then laughs and responded: “Don’t listen to Jamie, he’s trying to cause. What’s happening here.”
MBAPPE’S FUTURE
A number of weeks ago, reports from across Europe broke out that Mbappe wants out of PSG in January because certain promises have been broken.
Given Mbappe’s rumoured situation, a number of clubs were mentioned as possible next destinations for the versatile forward, including Liverpool.
In truth, despite the noise, it will be a big surprise if anything happens in January, but come the summer, then things might become interesting.
Whilst Liverpool fans would jump through several hoops for a player of Mbappe’s ilk, given their current situation, they should probably concentrate on getting into the Champions League places, before anything else.
