Manchester City could reportedly enter the race to sign PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe in 2023, with Liverpool also believed to be interested in the France international.

According to Marca, the reigning Premier League champions are not afraid about the possibility of pairing the 23-year-old attacker with Erling Haaland following reports last week that Mbappe wanted to leave PSG in the January transfer window.

The superstar attacker shocked the footballing world in the summer by signing a new contract to stay in Paris despite intense interest from Real Madrid. However, just a few months on from this announcement, Mbappe is seemingly keen to leave PSG in 2023.

As per the report, Madrid won’t entertain the idea of signing Mbappe in January, however, City could emerge as contenders for the attacker in 2023, with the Manchester giants having the financial capabilities to offer whatever the France international wants should he leave PSG.

With a release clause of £200m according to TalkSport, Pep Guardiola moving to sign Mbappe could be a move that might break the balance of competitive fairness in the Premier League and potentially the UEFA Champions League given that the Cityzens already have Haaland on their books.

However, whilst a move could be possible, Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Mbappe could see the Reds win the race to sign Mbappe, which could spark a new era of the City/Liverpool rivalry that has headlined the Premier League for the past five years.

Haaland and Mbappe are already being billed up as the next generation of the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry that dominated La Liga for the best part of a decade, and if Liverpool sign the French international in 2023, we could well have this saga set up, which could help the Premier League like nothing else.

After all, Haaland and Mbappe are the two best players in world football aged 23 and under, and the pair playing in England for rival clubs could be a massive boom for top-flight football in the country, with City and Liverpool’s rivalry also likely to explode into a whole new realm.
