Alex McLeish is said to be keen to take over at Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers again, following Mark Warburton’s departure.

Alex McLeish has emerged as the favourite to replace Mark Warburton at Glasgow Rangers, and he may have already hinted at one of the changes that he would make at the Ibrox side.

McLeish commented earlier in the season to the Scottish Sun, suggesting that Warburton was alternating Rangers’ centre-backs too often.

Rangers have failed to settle upon a solid backline this season, with many of their defenders being taken in and out of the team.

And McLeish has hinted that if he did take charge of Rangers, he would look to have more consistency in his team selections.

“Clint Hill and Rob Kiernan played together last week, but I don’t think they’ve had any real momentum because the centre-halves change regularly,” he said, back in October.

“That is a key component of the team. You don’t want to change that position around too much.

“The one thing you need with your defenders is an understanding and the more they play together then the better they feel.”

Hill, Kiernan, Philippe Senderos and Danny Wilson have all played at centre-back for Rangers this term.

The quartet have all had their critics, with Rangers’ defence being exposed on some occasions.

McLeish has become the favourite to take over the Glasgow club, as he commented today suggesting that he would be interested in taking the vacancy.

McLeish has grown up supporting Rangers, and he told Sky Sports that he would find it hard to turn the Light Blues down if they approached him.

McLeish previously was in charge at Rangers between 2001 and 2006.
