Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers announced that Mark Warburton had resigned last night.

John Hartson believes that Mark Warburton simply wasn’t up to the challenge of managing Glasgow Rangers at the top level.

Warburton guided Rangers to promotion last season, but he has faced increasing levels of criticism since the Ibrox side returned to the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers have struggled to live up to expectations upon their return to the top flight, and currently sit in third place.

The Light Blues have failed to pose any threat to their Glasgow rivals, Celtic, with Brendan Rodgers’ side now 27 points clear at the top of the division.

And Rangers’ season descended into farce last night, after Warburton was said to have resigned from his position at Ibrox.

Initially it seemed that Warburton had stepped down from his post in charge of Rangers, but he vehemently denied these claims.

Warburton’s future is now very unclear, but the 54-year-old will not be in charge in Rangers’ next match, which comes against Morton in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.

Hartson clearly does not believe that Warburton leaving Rangers will be a bad thing for the club though, even if his departure has not been handled perfectly.
