Reports emerged on Tuesday evening that Tottenham had made a breakthrough in talks to sign Alessandro Bastoni – and the Inter star responded to a question regarding his future after Italy had beaten Hungary 2-1.
Bastoni, 23, has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs at this early stage in the transfer window. Now, reports claim the left-footed central defender has informed Inter he is keen on a move to Spurs.
It would see him reunite with Antonio Conte, the man who brought him into the Inter side. Bastoni repaid him, by playing a crucial part of a back three that underpinned Inter’s stunning League and Cup double in 2020-21.

The Times say Bastoni will cost Spurs a huge £54million, and now he wants to join. As per CalcioMercato, Bastoni spoke about his future after the win – stating that Inter had not told him of anything at this stage.
“I have a two-year contract with Inter, so I’m very calm. The club hasn’t communicated anything to me, so I’m very calm. I think about Italy then I go on vacation and then I resume at the Appiano [Inter training ground].”
Tottenham: Conte target Bastoni responds to question on future
Bastoni is clearly one of Conte’s priorities. Spurs have already got one of those through the door in Ivan Perisic – signed on a free. Landing the Croatian has saved Spurs some cash for other signings.
An example of such is Bastoni. Given he is a regular for Inter and Italy and has a contract until 2024, he is going to cost a pretty penny – a near-record fee for Spurs. But he is worth it, especially in Conte’s eyes.
Having worked under Conte and in his system, he will know what to expect and hit the ground running. He will have a recognisable face to play alongside too in Perisic. It seems a deal is gathering momentum.
