Alan Smith has said on Stadium Astro that Arsenal winger Willian seems to have lost his hunger.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has said that it appears as though the Brazil international does not have the hunger he had when he was at Chelsea.
Smith has also questioned whether he moved to Arsenal for financial reasons after leaving Premier League and London rivals Chelsea.
The 32-year-old, who can also operate as attacking midfielder, was offered a two-year contract by Chelsea, as reported by The Daily Mail, but he moved to the Gunners on a free transfer after being handed a three-year deal, as reported by The Guardian.
Smith said about Willian on Stadium Astro: “What was his motivation for coming across London and joining Arsenal? At the moment, it’s easy to say it was for the money, pure and simple, and he has lost that hunger.
“That’s how it seems from the outside looking in. His performances have just not been good enough. It’s a big problem for the manager.”
Staying positive
Not so long ago there were suggestions that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had lost his ambition and hunger for Arsenal after signing a new contract.
The 31-year-old striker had been struggling in the opening weeks of the season, but the Gabon international is now back among the goals.
Willian has not been great for the Gunners so far this season, but given his track record at Chelsea and his undeniable quality, fans should stay positive about him.
According to WhoScored, the 32-year-old has provided three assists in 14 Premier League matches and has played thrice in the Europa League for Arsenal so far this season.
