Alan Smith has ordered Arsenal to offer Eddie Nketiah a “few more quid” during commentary on Sky Sports of his side’s 2-1 win over Leeds. The striker is out of contract in the summer, but scored another Arsenal brace.
Nketiah, 22, has started the last four games for Arsenal after coming into the side against Chelsea – scoring four goals, a brace against Chelsea and now two against former side Leeds. He is proving why he should be kept.
In a recent interview, Nketiah told the Beautiful Game podcast that he just wants to play football and get his chance. Now, he has got it and he is taking it with both hands. Whether he sign a new deal, is another question.
Ex-Arsenal striker Smith spoke about Nketiah when he was substituted in injury time during a 2-1 win over Leeds – and ordered Arsenal to give him some more money in a bid to convince the London-born man to stay.
“He’s got to stay, surely. Might persuade Arsenal to give him a few more quid in his contract offer. You would not want to lose him now,” Smith said on Sky Sports during his role as co-commentator at the Emirates.
Smith on Nketiah: Stay at Arsenal, or find himself a new club?
Jamie Carragher spoke after the win over Leeds that it is time Nketiah leaves Arsenal, because if he does remain, he will not be first choice. But is he not proving that he deserves to start for the Gunners?
Even if Arsenal bring in a big-name striker, which they are expected to do this summer? Nketiah is scoring goals, he is contributing to play and he is connecting well with Arsenal’s other academy products.
He is perfect for Arsenal and if a striker signing was doing the same, pundits and fans would be raving about said forward. Nketiah should only stay, if he is given assurances that he would be first choice.
