Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter to demand the signing of Jesse Lingard at Newcastle, using just one word to make his point.

What’s the story?

Well, a page called Statman Dave analysed whether Lingard would be a successful signing for Newcastle or not, before putting the question to their followers.

After seeing the tweet himself, Shearer hopped online to make his feelings known – you can see his answer in full below.

It doesn’t get much clearer than that – evidently, the 51-year-old is a huge fan of the Manchester United outcast.

So, what’s the situation? Can Newcastle sign him?

As things stand, it’s a difficult deal to do. Lingard finds himself out of contract in June, so you would assume Manchester United would be happy to sell now in order to receive some money.

However, according to the BBC, the 32-cap England international himself would rather wait until the summer to decide his next club.

Newcastle still trying to sign Jesse Lingard

By the sounds of it, Lingard’s stance hasn’t put Newcastle off.

Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry told fellow journalist Duncan Castles that a £10m bid has been submitted for the 29-year-old.

It was also said that Newcastle have offered to double Lingard’s £75,000-a-week wages.

Of course, the Manchester United No.14 will receive a nice signing on bonus should he leave Old Trafford as a free agent, so money may not interest him right now.

Sadly, Lingard seems happy to stay in Manchester, despite the fact he has only played 88 minutes of Premier League football so far this season.

Keep an eye on this situation – with Shearer demanding the move, who knows what could happen between now and deadline day.
