According to Ian McGarry, Newcastle have made a £10m bid for Jesse Lingard as the Magpies look to lure him away from Manchester United.
What’s the story?
Well, McGarry made the claim while speaking to Duncan Castles on The Transfer Window Podcast, in what is exciting news for Newcastle.
It was also said that Newcastle have offered to double Lingard’s wages, with the 29-year-old believed to be earning £75,000-a-week at Old Trafford.
That would, of course, see the 32-cap England international earn £150,000-a-week at Newcastle, a contract which McGarry describes as one which “sets him up for the rest of his life” – it certainly would.
As things stand, Lingard has six months left on his contract, and will become a free agent in June.
According to the BBC, Manchester United have already rejected an offer from the Magpies to take Lingard on loan.
In truth, we’re not sure why the Red Devils would agree to that, as it would mean they’re effectively just letting their No.14 leave six months early.
Jesse Lingard could save Newcastle

In our view, this is the most important bit of business for Eddie Howe to focus on between now and Deadline Day.
Lingard excels at injecting life into attacks, as we saw during his stunning loan spell at West Ham last season – he was one of the best in Europe during the second half of 2020/21.
Amazingly, the Warrington-born maestro netted nine goals and provided five assists in just 16 Premier League appearances for the Hammers.

Newcastle do not have a single player like Lingard, who is extremely good at finding space in between the lines and getting into dangerous areas.
With Chris Wood knocking the ball down for him, and Allan Saint-Maximin creating space with his mazy runs, Lingard could thrive under Howe.
Keep an eye on this saga, as we have a feeling this deal will happen.
