Newcastle are said to be interested in signing Jorginho in 2023 as Eddie Howe targets the Chelsea maestro.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who believe the Magpies are keen to sign a holding midfielder, with the Italy international in their sights as he sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in June.
If Newcastle do manage to bring the 31-year-old to St James’ Park, then the deal would seemingly come with the approval of Alan Shearer, who appears to be a huge admirer of the playmaker.
What’s the story?
Well, back in 2019, the Newcastle legend described Jorginho as “incredible” after the £57m man provided a phenomenal assist for Tammy Abraham to score in a 2-1 win over Watford.
As quoted by Football London, Shearer said: “Watch this pass from Jorginho, he looks once, Tammy Abraham knows it’s coming, he looks again and then this is the pass of the season so far.
“It’s just an incredible pass but Tammy knows it’s coming, and before the defender knows what’s happening it’s in the back of the net. Fantastic pass, fantastic finish.
You can see the Chelsea No.5’s outstanding pass below.
It was a perfect example of how Jorginho can dictate a game from deep, and you can certainly see why Howe wants to bring him to Tyneside in 2023.
Jorginho would transform Newcastle
In our view, Jorginho would be a transformative signing for the Magpies.
Howe already has some excellent midfield options within his squad, such as Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock.

However, Newcastle do not have a midfield maestro like Jorginho, who can give them a suffocative edge over their opponents by starving them of possession for extended periods.
The Italian’s composure in possession would ensure the likes of Bruno, Joelinton and others feel comfortable enough to push forward, safe in the knowledge that Jorginho is unlikely to squander the ball.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as a deal for the Chelsea playmaker could take Newcastle up a gear.
