Newcastle United beat West Ham United 3-2 at the London Stadium yesterday.

BBC pundit Alan Shearer insisted that the Magpies thoroughly deserved their win against the Hammers yesterday, when speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day programme on Saturday December 23rd, although he did admit that they got lucky when the hosts missed a penalty in the 56th minute.
Newcastle desperately needed the victory – a win that lifted them up into 15th position in the table, having not taken maximum points in the Premier League since October 21st.
Rafa Benitez’s side will now head into their hectic Christmas schedule full of confidence, rather than trepidation.

Shearer, who scored a record 206 goals for the Toon, told BBC’s Match of the Day how his former club totally deserved all three points at the London Stadium yesterday:

“They might have had a bit of luck with the penalty miss, but I thought they totally deserved it.”
Next up for the Magpies is a home game against Pep Guardiola’s rampant Manchester City side on December 27th, and they will have to be at their absolute best, if they are to take anything from the game.
Benitez’s side will at least be buzzing after their 3-2 win against West Ham, and if the crowd at St James’ Park get behind their team, the Citizens could be in for a tough evening on Tyneside.
