Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been linked with Nicolo Zaniolo and have reportedly already been in contact for the AS Roma playmaker, but now there is a very strong possibility that Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur will sign the Italian instead.
Radio Radio in Italy reported in December that Arsenal wanted to sign Zaniolo and could make a bid of €25 million (£22 million) in the January transfer window.
Roma Giallorossa subsequently claimed that Arsenal had made contact with the Italian club for the 23-year-old, described as “extraordinary” by head coach Jose Mourinho on the club’s YouTube channel in August 2022.
However, new reports in the Italian media suggest that it is Tottenham where the 23-year-old Italy international attacking midfielder wants to move to.
CalcioMercato journalist Daniele Longo has reported on Twitter that the agent of Zaniolo is in London to hold talks with Tottenham over a move for the youngster this moth.
The Italian reporter has claimed that the 23-year-old’s preferred destination is Tottenham, although his agent will hold talks with West Ham as well.
Longo wrote, as translated from Italian: “The agent of #Zaniolo is in London to deal with @SpursOfficial (preferred destination of Nicolò). Also contacts with the #WestHam .”
Roma are reportedly willing to sell the attacking player in the January transfer window.
According to SkySport journalist Alfredo Pedulla, there has been a total breakdown between the club and the player, who has now been made to train alone.
