Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could make a bid for AS Roma attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, a player Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign in the summer of 2022, according to Radio Radio in Italy,

Arsenal could bid for Tottenham Hotspur-linked Nicolo Zaniolo

The report has claimed that Arsenal have been monitoring Zaniolo and could make a bid of €25 million (£22 million) in the January transfer window.

The Italy international is out of contract at Roma in the summer of 2024.

The report has added that there are no talks going on between Roma and Zaniolo over a new deal.

The 23-year-old playmaker has had injury problems in recent years.

Interestingly, Arsenal’s bitter North London rivals Tottenham wanted to sign Zaniolo – described as “extraordinary” by AS Roma head coach Jose Mourinho on the club’s YouTube channel in August 2022 – in the summer of 2022.

Calciomercato reported in August that Tottenham head coach Conte was determined to sign Zaniolo in the summer transfer window.

This followed a report in Calciomercato in July that Tottenham offered £25million plus Joe Rodon for Zaniolo, but Roma said no and kept the Italian.

Stats

Nicolo Zaniolo, who is also able to play as a forward, has made 10 starts and one substitute appearance in Serie A for AS Roma so far this season.

The 23-year-old has scored one goal in those games.

Zaniolo has also scored one goal and given one assist in three UEFA Europa League matches this campaign.
