Craig Burley has claimed that Son Heung-min isn’t getting it done ‘again’ for Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur following their goalless draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The former Scotland international added that Son is blowing ‘hot and cold’ in Spurs colours this term, but their midweek result ‘isn’t a disaster’, as he told ESPN.

After their trip to Germany, a lot was made of Tottenham’s performance, especially given that they have come off the backdrop of their defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby.

It’s well known that Conte is a defensive-minded coach, and whilst no-one can ever fault winning football, when the points start to slip, that’s when the frustrations start to grow and the groans can be heard.

Well, Spurs and Conte are feeling a bit of that now, even though they have lost only two games this season in all competitions and are sitting second in their Champions League group and third in the Premier League table.

One man that just hasn’t been the same since his record-breaking and Golden Boot-winning season from 2021/22 is Son, as Burley expressed how it’s just not working for the 30-year-old.

“Son Heung-min again, he’s a bit hot and cold,” said Burley. “He had that hat-trick coming off the bench. Then, at the weekend, when he played against Arsenal, he was a bit iffy.

“He had chances against Frankfurt again, but he’s just not getting it done, put it that way in the final third.

“But, from Tottenham’s point-of-view, it’s not a disaster because Frankfurt are a good attacking side.”

FRUSTRATIONS DON’T MATCH TOTTENHAM’S POSITION

Given the reaction to recent results, you would think Spurs are sitting mid-table, leaking goals for fun and playing a boring style of football.

Whilst Conte’s no-nonsense and highly-demanding style isn’t easy-on-the-eye, it still shouldn’t hide away from how they have made a better start than the recent frustrations suggest.

Losing to your bitter rivals, from whatever part of the land you come from, is never helpful to the cause, so anger after that Arsenal defeat is understandable.

But, at this rate, Spurs should still progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League and still get into the top four, which should be the aim.
