Tottenham Hotspur might be turning a corner under Antonio Conte.
Conte’s side have won their last two games and scored a combined five goals since that defeat by Aston Villa in North London earlier this year.
But make no mistake, Spurs still need to strengthen their defence and one player who should be looked at again is Alex Sandro.
The Juventus star can play left-back or central defence and that versatility may well appeal to the Italian manager, whose partner at Tottenham, Fabio Paratici, no doubt knows Sandro from his time in Turin.
According to Calciomercato today, the 31-year-old is out of contract at the Italian outfit next summer and they are unable to afford an extension due to wages.
This should alert Tottenham and other clubs to his probable availability in January.
Back in 2020 [TMW], Daniel Levy wanted the player in a proposed swap deal with Serge Aurier which would’ve been far better for the Lilywhites than Juventus, though it did not materialise as planned.
Unless Juve want to lose him for free in six months, selling the Brazilian this month is a must and Tottenham should certainly float the idea of going after him again.
Yes, he is 31 and older than your average Tottenham target, but look at Ivan Perisic.
The Croatia international was 33 when Conte snapped him up, simply because he was free.
And although Sandro isn’t free, there’s still a lot of value and versatility in defence which, really, the 53-year-old manager does desperately need.
