Smyth looked sharp throughout Northern Ireland’s U21 victory over Spain but will Queens Park Rangers consider starting him on Saturday?

Queens Park Rangers forward Paul Smyth continued to demonstrate his potential on the international stage, by helping Northern Ireland U21s to a famous victory over their Spanish counterparts.
Tuesday’s 2-1 victory in Albacete will live long in the memory of the Irish youngsters and in particular Smyth, who looked a constant threat and was fouled for the penalty to make it 2-0.
Domestically, Smyth has been making steady strides and, although he has only started once in the Championship this season, his performances for Northern Ireland provide much to consider.
Renowned for his electric pace and keen eye for goal, Smyth has the raw attributes that make him a threat, and boss Steve McClaren should be considering how best to utilise the 21-year-old against Bolton Wanderers.

The R’s travel north to take on Phil Parkinson’s side, and the potential inclusion of Smyth in QPR’s starting XI can bring a much needed zest and energy to unsettle the hosts.
Admittedly, it will be hard to see Smyth dislodge either Ebere Eze or Luke Freeman but the potential addition of him out wide can provide a goal threat for Nahki Wells and Tomer Hemed.

It remains to be seen if McClaren will reshuffle his pack again to suit Smyth, but the former Linfield striker has certainly impressed on international duty and he should be used from the bench at the very least.
