Paul Scholes has said on BT Sports 3 (10:42pm, May 6, 2021) that Arsenal winger Willian looks moody whenever he has watched him play this season.

The former Manchester United star made the comments about Willian after Arsenal got knocked out of the Europa League.

Mikel Arteta’s side failed to win against Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Thursday evening. Scholes’s former club United will now face the Yellow Submarine in the final.

Scholes said on BT Sports 3 (10:42pm, May 6, 2021): “The signing of Willian has not worked at all. He has looked very moody whenever I have seen him play. What a good player he was at Chelsea as well.”

Willian signing has not worked out

Scholes’s comments about Willian not having a great season at Arsenal cannot be argued against.

The Brazilian winger joined Arsenal last summer on a free transfer after leaving Chelsea and was expected to be a massive success.

However, the 32-year-old, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, has struggled to make an impact on a consistent basis.

The Brazil international has not scored a single goal and has provided five assists in 24 Premier League matches and provided two assists in nine Europa League games for Arsenal this season.

Not giving up

Willian is having a bad season. The winger was brilliant during his time at Chelsea and played a big role in the Blues winning the Premier League title twice and the Europa League once when he was at Stamford Bridge.

True, the winger is now 32, but Arsenal fans should not give up on him. Willian can still come good, and perhaps after a rest this summer, he will report for pre-season training firing and ready to go again.
