Dan James has had a strange career to date.

He burst onto the scene with Swansea City where his good form almost earned him a move to Leeds United in January 2019.

James’s move to Elland Road fell through on deadline day at the 11th hour, but a bigger move was waiting for him that summer as he joined Manchester United.

However, after an underwhelming spell at Old Trafford a move to Leeds, once again, beckoned and he headed to Elland Road in 2021.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t rediscover his best form in West Yorkshire and after just one year at Leeds he was shipped out on loan to Fulham where he has, once again, found himself riding the bench at Craven Cottage.

In fact, James’ form has been so poor that he hasn’t even been able to get into the team ahead of Willian – a player who flopped badly at Arsenal just two years ago.

Willian has actually been named as one of Arsenal’s worst ever signings, but he’s getting into this Fulham team ahead of James on a regular basis.

To be fair to Willian, he has rediscovered his best form since joining Marco Silva’s side, but he has faced barely any competition from James who has flattered to deceive during this loan spell.

James’ poor showings at Fulham goes to show that Spurs may well have dodged a bullet with this player.

Indeed, the Welsh winger was strongly linked to Tottenham before the end of the summer transfer window, but he ended up in west London rather than north London eventually.

James has barely been good enough for Fulham, so we can’t imagine that he would have fared much better at Tottenham.

Spurs should be quietly happy that they missed out on James at the end of the summer.
