As we approach the 11pm deadline, Crystal Palace remain in talks with Peterborough over a deal for Ronnie Edwards, and Newcastle have just made things more interesting.

What’s the story?

Well, it was said that the south Londoners were in negotiations to sign the England Under-19 international after submitting a bid worth £4m for his signature.

There is yet to be a further development, although Peterborough have now signed Kell Watts on loan from Newcastle – a man who plays in the same position as Edwards.

That deal has pretty much come out of the blue, which could suggest that the League One club have moved to sign the centre-back from Newcastle to replace the teenage Crystal Palace target.

Edwards – who is also admired by Tottenham – has made six appearances in League One for Peterborough this season, and is a key man for Grant McCann despite his age.

A fee is yet to be agreed between Crystal Palace and Peterborough.

The £4m offer was said to include add-ons worth an extra £4m, although with reports stating that Edwards has a £15m price tag, it remains to be seen what happens.

Crystal Palace exploring other deals in addition to Ronnie Edwards

The south Londoners seem keen to do further business in addition to Edwards by the sounds of it.

There was an enquiry sent to Watford for Ismaila Sarr earlier in the day, while The Athletic believe there is interest in signing Djibril Sow from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Crystal Palace could also make a late swoop for Lyon maestro Houssem Aouar, who is a target for Nottingham Forest as well – the France international is available for just £13m seeing as his contract expires in 2023.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Selhurst Park, as we expect the south Londoners to make at least one new signing before the 11pm deadline.
