You can certainly see why Liverpool are reportedly keen on Florian Wirtz.
The 18-year-old attacker is one of Europe’s most exciting teenagers and he proved as much last night.
Wirtz, who according to Christian Falk of Bild is on Liverpool’s radar, dazzled on Thursday as Bayer Leverkusen thumped Celtic 4-0 in Europa League action.
He played a role in his side’s first goal of the evening before scoring himself before half time to make it 2-0.
Celtic couldn’t live with the youngster and here’s how some Liverpool and neutral fans reacted to his display last night:
Pinch of salt
Liverpool already have an entire squad full of unbelievable youngsters, none more so than Harvey Elliott in spite of his injury.
But Wirtz, if he does wind up at Anfield, would give Elliott a run for his money in terms of ability because this looks like a kid who’s going to be frighteningly good over the coming years.
Well, you could make the same argument for Elliott, but there isn’t room for both at Liverpool and that’s why you have to doubt the Reds’ interest – or at least take it with a pinch of salt.
Prior to his injury, Elliott was operating in an advanced midfield role under Jurgen Klopp and that’s pretty much where Wirtz plays.
Given his reputation, the young German is going to cost his next club an absolute fortune and with Liverpool already having their own English version of Wirtz, it’s doubtful that Klopp and Michael Edwards will greenlight such a big-money move.
