AC Milan director Zlatan Ibrahimovic has opened up on the future of French left-back Theo Hernandez who is attracting interest from Chelsea.

HITC reported that Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea were keen on bolstering their options at left-back and Theo Hernandez, who has been outstanding during his spell at AC Milan, was a serious option.

Hernandez currently has two-years left on his current deal and Milan would ideally like to extend his stay at the San Siro.

The Rosonneri are understood to view Hernandez as a key cornerstone of their squad moving forward and club director Zlatan Ibrahimovic has opened up on the future of the Frenchman.

Ibrahimovic comments on Hernandez’s future

As mentioned, with just two years remaining on his deal in Italy, Milan will have to make the decision to stick or twist on the left-back.

Bayern Munich are also understood to be in the hunt for the defender as they seek a replacement for Alphonso Davies as Real Madrid are keen on the Canadian.

As per Fabrizio Romano on X, former Swedish striker Ibrahimovic, who now plays a key role at the San Siro confirmed Hernandez would be remaining.

“Theo will be our regular starter and Alex Jiménez will be his backup,” Ibrahimovic said. “We trust Jiménez, that’s why we signed him from Real Madrid”.

Hernandez gave Chelsea hope of signing before Euro 2024

Whilst there seems to be an unerring confidence coming from those at the San Siro, the French defender was rather coy on his future when he was asked before Euro 2024.

He admitted to Gazzetta Dello Sport: “I’m focused on the European Championship. Whether I’ll stay at AC Milan or not, we’ll see later.”

Chelsea are understood to have different backups in mind as the Blues believe it may well be hard to prise the 24-year-old away from AC Milan this summer.

A figure in the region of £60 million is what AC Milan are understood to be after. Inter Milan wing-back Federico Dimarco is another option for Chelsea with the Blues understood to have tracked the Italian for two years.
