Chelsea and Manchester City are keen on Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies but the Canadian has a different priority this summer, HITC understands.

Both Premier League giants are set to be in for an important summer with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City bidding to retain their league title, whilst Chelsea are set for their first transfer window under Enzo Maresca.

One star defender who looks set to be on the market this summer is Alphonso Davies, who has consistently performed and was superb during Bayern Munich’s Champions League victory in 2020.

A move away from the Allianz Arena is a real possibility this summer, but despite interest from the Premier League, Davies has a different move in mind.

Davies’ priority

HITC understands that despite interest from England, he is determined on moving to Real Madrid this summer, if that opportunity presents itself.

Chelsea and City are long-term admirers of Davies and retained some hope that they could jump on a deal but that possibility is dependent on whether Madrid could afford the deal this summer.

Davies has just 12-months left on his current deal and Bayern Munich are accepting that persuading him to sign a new deal is increasingly likely.

The left-back is just 23 years of age and has gone from strength to strength since moving to the club from the Vancouver Whitecaps but it does appear that his time in Bavaria is coming to an end.

Chelsea and City’s chance

Despite Davies’ preference to move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, Madrid are waiting on Bayern’s demand for the Canadian before they decide whether to sign the left-back now or next summer, when he will be available on a free transfer.

HITC understands that Davies is eager to make the move this summer and if Real decide not to do it, that could present an opening to either City or Chelsea to try and jump on a deal.

Both Premier League clubs are understood to be keen on adding a left-sided defender this summer. Ben Chilwell has only made 13 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this summer whilst City’s left-back Josko Gvardiol was originally brought in to play at centre-back, but has performed very well on the left for the Citizens.
