Northampton Town boss Jon Brady has labelled claims that the League Two club are looking to sign Josh McPake from Scottish giants Rangers ‘absolute rubbish’, speaking to the Northampton Chronicle.
Currently embarking upon yet another loan spell – this time at Queen’s Park – reports linking the Lanarkshire-born winger with a potential January move to Sixfields certainly made some sense on paper.
McPake, after all, has a respectable track record in the fourth tier of English football. The 21-year-old has had spells at Harrogate Town and Tranmere Rovers in recent seasons, and the Daily Record believe that Northampton have sent scouts to watch the former Scotland U19 international in action of late.

Rangers winger Josh McPake reportedly a target for Northampton Town
But if that is indeed the case, then it’s certainly news to Brady.
“I saw that the club have been linked with Josh McPake,” the Cobblers boss said.
“I know he was at Tranmere last season but I can say in no uncertain terms that we haven’t even thought about him. There’s just absolute rubbish talk in the press at the moment.”
McPake has three goals and one assist in 15 games for Scottish Championship outfit Queen’s Park. His contract at parent club Rangers, meanwhile, has just a year-and-a-half left to run.
Time will tell whether McPake can force his way into Mick Beale’s thinking with more impressive displays at Ochilview Park. The good news is that Beale is an admirer of technical forwards in the McPake mould.
Mick Beale ‘delighted’ as Rangers beat Hibs at Ibrox
Rangers beat Hibernian 3-2 in a topsy-turvy encounter at Ibrox on Thursday night; Beale beginning his second spell at the Glasgow giants with three vital points. The hitherto out-of-sorts Alfredo Morelos scored a second-half winner against Lee Johnson’s side. There were also welcome goals for Fashion Sakala and Ryan Jack.
“It is a bit of a mixed bag. But I am delighted with the three points in the end,” Beale tells the Rangers website. “There has been a lot going on at the football club in the last five or six weeks. And it’s not easy just to expect everything to go perfect in the first game.
“I thought we played well in the second-half. We turned the game around which was fantastic in terms of mentality and character of the group. (The players) really took on board the information I gave them in the second-half.
“We dominated, we had big chances to go and increase the lead as well.”
