Ally McCoist has been speaking about Jürgen Klopp after Liverpool suffered a 5-2 defeat in the Champions League Round of 16.
The Reds were shellshocked by Real Madrid despite taking a 2-0 lead at Anfield thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, with some now questioning the German’s future as Liverpool continue to struggle.
Now – speaking on talkSPORT – McCoist has addressed question marks over Klopp’s future.
What’s the story?
Well, the 60-year-old believes those calling for Klopp to be sacked are talking “absolute nonsense”.
McCoist said: “Nonsense. Come on. Absolute nonsense. He’s given Liverpool some of the best times in the club’s history. Let’s calm things down here. If anybody deserves the opportunity to have a rebuild, it’s Jürgen Klopp.”
We agree with every word.
Klopp is a Liverpool legend, and the problems at Anfield go far beyond him – thankfully, more people are pointing the finger at those in the boardroom rather than the German.
The 55-year-old has remarkably won 176 of his 280 Premier League games in charge of Liverpool, guiding them to their first Premier League title in 2020 in what was a record-breaking campaign.
In total, Klopp has won 256 of his 414 games while managing the Reds, as he’s lifted the Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and the FA Community Shield as well.
As McCoist states, the Stuttgart-born tactician has given Liverpool some of the best times in their entire history, and if anybody deserves time to turn the situation around, it’s him.
Who Liverpool could hire to replace Klopp
If Fenway Sports Group do decide to perform the unthinkable and sack Klopp, there are only a few options for a club of Liverpool’s stature.

Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino – who have both rejected West Ham – are available after being sacked by Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
Luis Enrique and Zinedine Zidane are also unemployed right now.
Steven Gerrard is another name out of work at the moment, but after failing at Aston Villa, it would be a surprise to see him take over at Liverpool unless he rebuilds his reputation elsewhere first.
