Arsenal kicked off 2022 with a defeat to Manchester City, but it was hardly a performance to write off for the Gunners, especially for Thomas Partey.
The midfielder, who will now join up with Ghana for the Africa Cup of Nations, was a star for the north London side in their 2-1 loss to Pep Guardiola’s side.
Partey controlled the midfield and caused City many problems throughout the match, with the former Atletico Madrid star arguably playing his best game yet since joining Arsenal in 2020.
As per Arsenal’s official Twitter account, the 28-year-old was everywhere for the Gunners, with Partey showcasing his talents against a City side who have been one of the best sides in Europe this season.
Indeed, despite playing outstanding football, Arsenal threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 as a handful of dubious refereeing decisions swung the game in City’s favour.
The Manchester side were awarded a penalty that looked soft and was similar to an incident in the first half that saw Arsenal not win a spot-kick. Whilst Gabriel Magalhaes saw red for two quick yellow cards that looked harsh.
It was a result that Arsenal didn’t deserve, with the likes of Bukayao Saka and Gabriel Martinelli shining for the hosts. Yet there was no question that Partey was the man of the show against the Premier League leaders.
Arsenal fans laud Partey after City masterclass

With Partey now unavailable for Arsenal for most of January, the Gunners have lost the midfielder at the worst possible time after his incredible display against City.
And on social media, Arsenal fans were full of praise for the Ghanian, who was simply brilliant on Saturday. Here’s what some supporters had to say on Twitter…
