Comments made by the executive director of the White House’s World Cup task force, Andrew Giuliani, about America hosting the 2038 tournament have prompted a mixed reaction from fans.

The USA are currently in the midst of, along with Mexico and Canada, hosting the 2026 World Cup

The 2030 tournament will then primarily be held across Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, with Saudi Arabia winning the rights to host the biggest competition in football in 2034.

But America have plans to put in a bid for the World Cup in 2038, which has not gone down well with some.

Fans react negatively to the suggestion USA could bid for the 2038 World Cup

As quoted by the BBC, Giuliani said: “When you think that this World Cup may at some point expand out to 64 teams, I think the United States can handle it,” said Andrew Giuliani.

“Let me make sure we get through this World Cup on 19 July before we make our pitch for 2038 or other ones.”

He continued: “There’s no better country that’s positioned to host a World Cup than the United States, and I think we’re seeing that on social media.

“I think we’re seeing that with all the fans that may be interacting with the US for the first time, or the first time in a long time, that the US truly is extremely welcoming, that we have such an incredible infrastructure.

“We have the stadiums built, so for the US, compared to other host nations, where it costs tens and tens of billions of dollars, you know, it cost us a couple of billion.”

However, while the USA would no doubt love to have another World Cup in the coming years, a number of people on social media have reacted negatively to the prospect of it happening.

One fan said: “No way should this be allowed. That would be 3 World Cups hosted since England last did.”

A second added: “Oh, please, we don’t want that, make it happen somewhere else apart from USA, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.”

“No, thank you. Time zones are annoying unless they change start times,” commented a third.

Another tweeted: “Would be an absolute joke if USA got another World Cup so soon. Plenty of other countries it should go to before them again. There needs to be a rule whereby there needs to be a certain number of years before the same country can host again.”

A fifth sarcastically commented: “Great idea, maybe they could have 4 hydration breaks every half to boost commercial sales?”

Another echoed: “No thanks. They’ve ruined it with their advertising breaks,” while a seventh rather harshly wrote: “The ignorance and arrogance of Americans holds no bounds.”

An exact date for when the 2038 World Cup bidding process will end is yet to be confirmed.
