Italian journalist Massimo Brambati has been quoted by Il Bianconero as saying that Tottenham Hotspur are about to “lock” manager Antonio Conte down to a new contract at Spurs – which will delight fans of the North London club.
Conte, 53, is excelling in his role as Tottenham manager. Replacing Nuno Espirito Santo last season, he guided a side that were tagged as ‘Spursy’ into fourth place, qualifying for the Champions League. He was backed in the summer.
Now, Spurs are fighting to finish in the top four again – with the added difficulty of competing in the Champions League. They have four points from their opening three games, while sitting in third after nine games in the league.
However, there is one doubt regarding Conte. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season, although Alasdair Gold has reported that Spurs have the option to extend his deal by a further year – without having to ask Conte.
Speaking on Max Allegri’s future at Juventus, where the Italian is under enormous pressure, Conte’s name arises. While he says Juventus should go all in for Conte – he also says that Tottenham are to set to tie their manager’s future down.
The piece is titled: “Juve, Conte now escapes you. Tottenham are about to lock him down.” The piece continues. “I would have focused and would still focus on Antonio Conte, to whom I would give the keys to Juve.
“Unfortunately, the most serious mistake of the Juventus club was not to bet, out of pride and for reasons of principle, on the Lecce coach. In London they saw him working and are realizing who they have their hands on.”

It is great news for Tottenham fans and the club itself, if what Brambati reports is true. Keeping Conte is the best signing Daniel Levy can make as Spurs chairman. Everything is pointing in the right direction at Tottenham.
The two main things that Conte has improved, is the fitness of the players. Largely thanks to Gian Piero Ventrone, who sadly passed away last week. Secondly, it is the mentality – turning unconfident players into winners.
It showed, after such an emotional week, in their last game – a 1-0 win over Brighton away from home. A Brighton side that are in excellent form, and drew with Liverpool at Anfield 3-3. Keeping Conte is key to Tottenham’s future.
