Brenden Aaronson has told Sky Sports that he believes Leeds United can get back into the Champions League in years to come. The midfielder was announced as the club’s first signing of the summer on Thursday evening.
The 21-year-old will join the club on July 1 after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal. Numerous reports claim that Leeds have spent £24million to lure him to Elland Road from RedBull Salzburg, after months of interest.
Indeed, Aaronson was the subject of two bids from Leeds in January. But the player, and Salzburg, chose to keep him in Austria ahead of his side’s Champions League knockout clash against Bayern Munich – which they lost.

Now, Aaronson has signed on at Elland Road – putting pen to paper on a five-year deal. An exciting move for Leeds fans. He was asked by Sky Sports whether Leeds could return to the Champions League in years to come.
“I think so [return to the Champions League]. “Behind the scenes, with the family feel you get at this club, I think this club can go really far.
“It’s history, the fans are fantastic, if we keep doing what we’re doing, there’s no reason why we cannot reach the top of the game,” Aaronson said.
Brenden Aaronson: Leeds can get back into Champions League
For a club that finished in 17th place in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth on Sunday, it is a big claim. Leeds are miles off the top four, let alone any kind of European football. But there is potential.
A one-club City, Leeds have the potential to grow with the fanbase of an entire community pulling in the same direction. Leeds will not be in the Champions League in three years, but in 10, who knows?
But it is clear Aaronson knows there is plenty of work to do to help build the side into one that is clear of the relegation zone, first, having watched the club come close to relegation last weekend – in a cafe, in Vienna.
