Galatasaray after interested in signing one of West Ham’s players after failing to complete a deal for an Aston Villa defender.

The Premier League transfer window shut over a week ago but the Turkish Super Lig deadline is not for another two days.

Several players have been linked with a move to Turkey lately, including Kieran Trippier to Fenerbahce, while Victor Osimhen has already joined Galatasaray after his move to Chelsea broke down.

The Super Lig champions are now looking at one of the Hammers’ key men to further bolster their squad for the 2024/25 season.

Galatasaray interested in West Ham’s Emerson Palmieri

Turkish outlet Sabah are reporting that Galatasaray want to sign West Ham’s Emerson Palmieri in the closing stages of the transfer window.

Emerson would join a number of former Premier League players at the Istanbul club if he were to go there: Michy Batshuayi; Lucas Toreira; Hakim Ziyech; and Davinson Sanchez.

The Brazilian’s interest in the potential move is unknown but Julen Lopetegui’s side are highly unlikely to accept any offers for him anyway.

They would have to wait until January to sign a replacement for him, leaving 34-year-old Aaron Cresswell as the only natural left-back in their squad.

This is not a situation that the Hammers would be comfortable with, almost entirely ruling out Emerson’s chances of going to Galatasaray this week.

Instead, it seems like a deal that could go through next summer when he is 31 years of age and has just one year left on his £95,000-per-week contract (according to Spotrac).

Galatasaray wanted Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne first

Emerson is one of Galatasaray’s alternatives for Lucas Digne, who was previously at the top of their left-back shortlist.

However, negotiations did not advance much as Digne reportedly had no interest in joining Osimhen and Co. in Istanbul.

The 31-year-old still appears to be the first choice at Aston Villa despite the arrival of Ian Maatsen for £37.5 million from Chelsea.

It remains to be seen whether he can keep the Dutchman behind him in the pecking order but he certainly has plenty more Premier League football in his locker.
