Toby Alderweireld would welcome the opportunity to work with Roberto Martinez at Tottenham as the Belgium manager continues to be linked with the Spurs job, as he told the Mail.

With Antonio Conte slipping through Daniel Levy’s fingers, Tottenham are back in the familiar surroundings of square one.

It is almost two months since Jose Mourinho was handed his P45.

And, amid concerns over the club’s restrictive transfer budget, Conte has now joined the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers and Rui Vitoria in passing Tottenham by.

As one door closes, however, a window of opportunity may open up for Martinez.

Will Roberto Martinez join Spurs after Euro 2020?

The former Wigan Athletic and Everton manager is keen on a return to the Premier League and, with Tottenham having missed out on most of their top targets, Levy could do a lot worse than take a closer look at a man who ticks a lot of boxes.

The Athletic reports that Spurs want a manager who develops young talent, possesses excellent man-management skills and, most importantly, plays attractive attacking football.

“I can only say great things about him,” Alderweireld said of a man who will lead Belgium into the European Championships later this week.

“The worst scenario would be that he doesn’t go to Tottenham or be at the national team. I just want him to be one of the two.”

The sudden departure of Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park has complicated matters, however.

The Athletic reports that Martinez, who famously led Everton to a fifth-place finish and a club-record points haul in 2013/14, has been lined up for a potential return to the blue half of Merseyside.
