It may have been a rare vulnerable afternoon in the Rangers defence that required Allan McGregor to produce a Man of the Match performance on Sunday, but there are problems further up the park too.

That’s the view of Kris Commons, who has singled out Ryan Kent as a player who needs to do more.

Kent, who cost £7m when his move from Liverpool was made permanent and has been repeatedly linked with Leeds United, turned in a disappointing performance as the league leaders were held 1-1 by Hamilton.

Former Celtic star Commons believes the winger needs to deliver more than he has so far this season.

Speaking on page 16 of Monday’s Scottish Daily Mail sport section, Commons suggested Rangers’ showing at New Douglas Park may have been indicative of complacency creeping in among Steven Gerrard’s men.

He said: “Listen, criticism is all relative with these things. Rangers have still had an outstanding season overall and they will deservedly finish as champions.

“But this should serve as a wake-up call. This was the first match where a slight element of complacency seemed to have crept in among the players.

“Gerrard will come down on them like a ton of bricks if he gets the sense they’re in cruise control. They’ve come too far now to start throwing away silly points.

“But he needs his attacking players to rediscover their best form because his team have lost a little bit of sparkle from what they were producing before.

“Ryan Kent is one who can certainly do more. He was arguably the best player in the country over the first couple of months of the season, before James Tavernier took over.

“Kent has only scored one league goal since November. Yeah, he’s chipped in with a couple of assists since then, but you do expect more from an outlay of £7m.

“Six league goals in 28 games isn’t exactly anything to write home about. Particularly when Alfredo Morelos isn’t in the team, Kent needs ti step up and do more.”
